Ego Defense Mechanisms as Predictors of Interpersonal Relationships in Young Adults

Abstract

The study examined that how young adults' ego defense mechanism styles, and interpersonal relationships relate to one another. In order to gather the quantitative data from a diverse sample of 300 young adults in Sialkot, the study used a planned cross-sectional (survey) design and well-established instruments, such as the Defense Style Questionnaire Urdu version (Andrews et al., 1993), and the Interpersonal Relationships Questionnaire-Short form (FIAT-Q-SF; Darrow et al., 2014). Demographic variables were analyzed using descriptive analysis, correlations between variables were determined by applying Pearson moment correlation, and the predictive relationship of ego defense mechanisms and on interpersonal relationships were determined through regression analysis. Moreover t-test was employed to find out gender difference between study variables. The findings indicated higher levels of immature style and neurotic style can increase the interpersonal relationships issues.
