Abstract

This research paper endeavors to delve into the profound significance of "Alool Amr" within the realm of classical and contemporary Tafseer literature, employing a methodology rooted in historical and contextual analysis. The central focus of this study is to explore the evolving interpretations of "Alool Amr"a Quranic term mentioned notably in Surah An-Nisa (4:59) by examining both pre-modern and modern exegetical perspectives. By tracing the development of interpretations across various centuries and schools of thought, this research highlights how political, social, and theological contexts have shaped and reshaped the understanding of this pivotal concept. The study analyzes how renowned scholars such as Al-Tabari, Al-Razi, Ibn Kathir, and modern commentators have approached the term, and how differing views on authority religious or political have influenced these interpretations. The chosen methodology involves a comparative historical approach, investigating not only the textual meanings but also the socio-religious implications attributed to "Alool Amr". This method allows for a layered understanding of the term's exegetical significance, as well as its application and relevance within different Islamic thought paradigms. Ultimately, the paper seeks to offer a comprehensive insight into the multi-dimensional nature of authority in Islam, as understood through the lens of Tafseer literature, thereby contributing to the broader discourse on Quranic hermeneutics and Islamic governance.
